About
Stephen Chignell, PhD
Founder
Stephen Chignell is an environmental researcher who combines geospatial analysis with archival research, interviews and network analysis. He holds a PhD in Resources, Environment and Sustainability from the University of British Columbia (2023), where his thesis received the Freda Pagani Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis, and an MS in Watershed Science from Colorado State University.
His research has covered Ethiopia's Bale Mountains, the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica, Britain's national parks and the Colorado Rockies. He is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Bristol, co-lead of the Interdisciplinary Synthesis theme of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) programme Integrated Science to Inform Antarctic and Southern Ocean Conservation (Ant-ICON), and a member of the editorial board of the Annals of the American Association of Geographers.
